The Story Line:
Set in Los Angeles in 1965, the widow Alice Zander performs out of the suburban home as the spiritual medium, together with her daughters, 9-year old Doris and the 15-year-old “Lina” Paulina; although they stage their meet-up with the dead or séances; Alice’s real intention is to assist people to get going. The family is reeling over the latest death of Alice’s husband, Roger and the father of his kids. After Lina suggested that Alice include an Ouija board with her readings, Alice did it and unknowingly contacted a spirit known as Marcus that started to possess Doris. The sibling brakes one from the three rules: never play in the graveyard, never play alone, and say goodbye always but they played in the graveyard.
Alice takes from a delivery man the foreclosure note, which means that they might lose the house of his husband. Doris contacted the board for assistance, believing she was talking with the dead father and a spirit lead her to the secret cubicle behind the underground room containing the pouch of cash. The family had an Ouija gathering right after Doris handing out the money to her mother, because they believed that they may contact Roger. When the Ouija board answered a query that only Roger knows the answer, a thrilled Alice started to believe that they are really in contact with her departed husband.
The Writers’ View:
There are so many things to like in this movie. First, it was set in the 1960s, then, people that time are putting too much effort just to put on clothes and go to a supermarket. There is also the heart of the story, the wife that lost her husband, the kids that lost their dad, the priest that lost his wife, and so the hole in the souls creates a basis for why each of them have the longing or wanting to speak with their departed loved ones. This is the real reason why the spirit is taking advantage of them.
